Description

WWI Dugout Entrance – Log Reinforced Trench Shelter (1914–1918)

Entrance to a Trench Dugout or Bunker

This model represents a WWI trench dugout entrance, a shelter built directly into the trench wall where soldiers rested, stored supplies, and took cover during artillery bombardments.

During World War I, dugouts played a critical role in trench warfare. Soldiers used them for protection from shell fragments, harsh weather, and constant enemy fire. Therefore, almost every trench system included several dugout entrances along the rear line.

Reinforced Log Roof Construction

The structure features a heavy timber log roof covered with earth, which was a common construction method on the Western Front.

Thick wooden beams support the roof. In addition, layers of packed soil help absorb the shock from nearby explosions. Because of this construction, dugouts provided much better protection than open trenches.

Rear Line Trench Section Included

This model does not represent only the doorway. Instead, it includes the entire front structure of the dugout entrance.

The terrain piece features:

  • reinforced log walls

  • an earth-covered protective roof

  • the dugout entrance structure

  • a section of rear trench line

Because of these elements, the model works perfectly as a command dugout, officer shelter, supply bunker, or resting shelter located behind the front line.

Ideal for Dioramas and Wargaming Terrain

This terrain piece fits many WWI battlefield scenes. For example, you can use it in:

  • WWI trench dioramas

  • modular trench systems

  • rear line trench sections

  • battlefield command posts

  • tabletop wargaming terrain

In addition, the model connects naturally with other trench elements such as firing positions, trench corners, communication trenches, and trench stairs.

Scale Options

The model is available in:

  • 1:35 scale

  • 1:56 scale

These scales match most WWI miniatures used in historical dioramas and tabletop wargaming.

Materials

We produce this terrain piece using high-detail 3D printing with durable PLA material. As a result, the model shows realistic textures of wood, soil, and trench construction.

The item arrives unpainted, so you can prime and paint it according to your project.

Painting Suggestions

For the best results, follow a simple painting process.

First, apply a plastic primer.
Next, paint the wooden beams with natural wood tones.
After that, add earth colors to the trench walls and ground surface.
Finally, use washes and weathering pigments to create mud, dirt, and battlefield wear.

This approach will help you achieve a realistic WWI battlefield look.
